How to Wrap Great Kilts
The kilt may be one of the most easily identifiable cultural marks in the world. Though many will debate as to who actual invented the kilt and where it was first worn, it is an undeniable symbol of cultural heritage from Scotland or Ireland. These traditional garments are still worn today at festivals, tournaments and other cultural celebrations. If you are looking to properly express your pride in your heritage, you need to know how to properly wrap and wear your plaid kilt.

1
Lay your belt on the floor with the inside facing up. Make sure you work in an area where you have enough room to spread the kilt out completely and to lay down to your full height.
-
2
Lay your plaid material over the belt, with the belt closer to the bottom of the material. The bottom of the kilt should touch your knee, while the belt will be at your waist, so lay the material as close to these measurements as you can.

3
Pleat the plaid fabric by gathering it into small ridges toward the center of the belt. Start in the center and pleat outward in both directions. Only the material just above the belt to the bottom of the plaid needs to be pleated; the top can remain unpleated.
-
4
Lay down on the plaid with the bottom of the fabric at your knee and the belt at your waist. If any adjustments need to be made to the belt placement, now is the time.
-
5
Pull one side of the kilt over your body so that the edge rests on the outside of your opposite leg. It does not matter which side you start with. It's okay if a few of the pleats come undone.
-
6
Pull the other side of the kilt over the first, so that the edge rests on the outside of your opposite leg. Fasten your belt over the material at your waist.
-
7
Stand up and adjust the kilt as necessary to make sure it rests comfortably at your waist. Again, the bottom of the kilt should be at the center of your knees. Adjust the top of the kilt comfortably around your waist or over your shoulder as you choose.
