How to Transter Rub Ons in Scrapbooking
A rub-on transfer is an image or block of text that can be transferred to a paper surface by burnishing the image with a popsicle stick or other burnishing tool. The advantages of rub-on transfers is their ability to look as if the image is a part of the original page. This is due to their transparent background and lack of "edge" after application.
Things You'll Need
- Rub-on transfer
- Popsicle stick or other burnishing tool
- Scrapbook page or layout
Instructions
-

1
Determine where you want to place the rub-on transfer image within your page or layout.
-
2
Place the scrapbooking page or layout on which you will be transferring onto a flat, level surface.
-
-
3
Cut out the portion of the rub-on transfer you want to use if the transfer is on a sheet with other transfers. This will prevent you from accidentally transferring any extra rub-ons to your surface.
-
4
Peel the backing from your selected rub-on.
-
5
Place your rub-on on the scrapbook page and begin to burnish the transfer onto the page. Take your time burnishing the image onto the paper. Continue to burnish with your popsicle stick or burnishing tool until you see the image disappear from the transfer paper.
-
6
Lift the transfer paper from the page. If you notice any spots that did not transfer properly, return the transfer paper to the scrapbooking page and carefully reposition. Continue to burnish until all portions of the rub-on transfer are transferred to the paper.

Tips & Warnings
Before beginning your layout, visualize how you want the finished page to look. This will give you a better idea of where you want to place the transfer so you don't wind up overlapping design elements as you continue to create your page layout.
Experiment with the placement of your transfer by placing the transfer on different areas of the layout before removing the backing.
In the event you remove the transfer before you have transferred all elements to the page, simply align the remaining areas of the transfer with those that you have already transferred and continue to burnish until you have transferred all remaining areas.
Many rub-on transfer kits come with a burnishing tool. If your transfer kit did not come with a burnishing tool, any wooden or hard plastic tool will work. Avoid using your fingernail for burnishing as this will not provide a thorough transfer.
