Squeeze pages are landing pages for websites that are placed before the index page. Their purpose is to collect information so that prospects may be added to a list for later follow-up. The concept is usually straightforward, with an incentive offered to get the details. It may be a free report, a discount offer, a subscription to a newsletter or a mini-course of emails on a related topic.
Prepare the incentive to be offered on the squeeze page. If it is a short report or an email series, write this first and use the benefits of it as bullet points in the squeeze page copy.
2
Write the copy for the page. This will need a headline to attract attention, with a follow-on paragraph that leads your visitor into more detail. This can be a brief summary of the incentive you are offering, or bullet points stating the benefits. That paragraph is followed by a form asking for name and email address. This is often highlighted with arrows or other images to focus attention on it.
Once the form is submitted it will usually link to an autoresponder that will send a confirmation email and then add the prospect to your list. As soon as the form is submitted, the visitor will be forwarded to the main website.
3
Set up the sign-up form and load your incentive document to the autoresponder provider. Whichever one you use (AWeber and GetResponse are two popular ones), they will have a form generator to set up the code to add to your page. Select the template you want and enter the fields: usually just the name and email address.
The form generator will provide you with HTML code to add to your squeeze page or a short Javascript entry. The latter will automatically update the form if you later make changes on the form generator, saving you having to upload the code again.
4
Open your HTML editor and create a centered table about 750 by 500 pixels and enter the sales copy you wrote for the page, including the code for the autoresponder form. Remember to check the page for spelling, grammar and syntax--errors on the page can make you lose credibility.
5
Load the squeeze page to your website. You have three ways to do this: your HTML editor may contain a "publish" function in which case you only have to supply the website address, username and password, and transfer the page. Alternatively, the website will have an upload facility: access the control panel using your username and password and then navigate to the file on your computer, via the upload function. The final way is to use an File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program, such as FileZilla. Add your site using the website address, username and password and then connect and transfer the file.
Tips & Warnings
Test the page to make sure that it works correctly and that the incentive offered is delivered correctly.
