How to Find Hard-to-Find Groceries

Whether you have dietary restrictions, need ethnic cuisine items, or are seeking a rare gourmet delicacy, some food items are difficult to come by. Even in larger cities where natural, ethnic and specialty foods retailers abound, you may still be unable to find the particular grocery item you seek. Not to worry. The advent of the Internet has been a boon to folks who occasionally or routinely seek hard-to-find items. If you are not able to purchase the item online, you should at least be able to get information online about where to find it. Patience and perseverance may be required, but finding that special spice, chocolate, caviar or gluten-free item will be well worth it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Search online for the item. Type the name of the item into your favorite search engine.

    • 2

Sift through the results. You may end up with hundreds, or just dozens, of results about your item. Some may only be product reviews or blog entries. Ideally, you will find a distributor or manufacturer of the item.

    • 3

Go to the website or blog you have chosen. If you cannot make a purchase at that site, contact the site or blog online, by phone or by email to see if they know of a retailer.

    • 4

Search eBay and/or Amazon.com. If your search engine efforts have not paid off, try typing the name of the item directly into the eBay search box. The site is known to offer hard-to-find items of every type, so it is a good place to check.

    • 5

Contact organizations or websites that pertain to the item. For example, if the food item is gluten-free, look for organizations or blogs about gluten-free foods. Contact the organization online, by phone or via email to ask about your specific food item.
