You may run into times when you're offline and want to watch a YouTube video or you want to share a YouTube video with someone who is offline. In those cases, you need an actual copy of the video rather than a link to the YouTube site. You can download videos to your computer using KeepVid (keepvid.com).

Instructions

      Go to the YouTube site (youtube.com) and navigate to the video you want to download.

      Copy the URL of the video in your browser's address bar.

      Go to KeepVid.com and paste the copied URL into the URL text box.

      Press the "Download" button next to the URL box.

      Click the download link of your choice in the Download Links section of the KeepVid website. A new window opens.

      Click to open the file with a certain program on your computer or click "Save File." Click the "OK" button. The video will start playing or will be saved to your computer, depending on your selection.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will usually be provided with two links to download a copy of the video. One of these links will provide a copy in the "flv" format, and the other will provide a copy in the "mp4" format. The mp4 version is in a higher resolution. You can download these videos to any location on your hard drive.
