How to Convert a TIF to BMP

Save

Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is a high quality image format that is also portable between different applications. This format may use a compression to reduce file size but it does not influence the image quality. Microsoft designed its own bitmap (BMP) format to use specifically for some Windows applications, though other operating systems can handle those images. The BMP format records actual image pixels. As it's an uncompressed format, it produces larger files. You can convert the TIF images using the "Paint" editor shipped with every Windows version.

  • Log on to your user Windows 7/Vista or XP account and click the "Start" button.

  • Type "Paint" and press "Enter" to open the editor if you are using Windows Vista/7. If you're in Windows XP, click "Run, " type "Paint" and press "Enter."

  • Press "Ctrl" + "O" on your keyboard and locate the TIF file you wish to convert to BMP. Double-click on the file name to open the file in Paint.

  • Select the Paint menu "File" and then "Save As."

  • Select "24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp)" under "Save as type." The TIF extension in the file name will be automatically changed to BMP.

  • Click the "Save" button to complete the image conversion to the BMP format.
