How to Insert a Word Document Into Autocad


Word document (DOC) is a text document format used by Microsoft Word. AutoCAD is a CAD (computer-aided design) software developed by Autodesk Inc. AutoCAD drawings contain numerous information other than the drawing itself and can be prepared in a Word document. Importing a Word document into an AutoCAD file can be done by inserting the document as an OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) object.

  • Launch AutoCAD and open the AutoCAD file you wish to insert the Word document.

  • Click the “Insert” menu and click OLE Objects. An “Insert Object” window will pop up.

  • Select “Microsoft Word Document” from the drop-down menu and then click the “Create From File” button. Select the document file you want to insert and check the “Link” box. Click “OK.”

Tips & Warnings

  • Only the first page of the document will be inserted.
