Save

Create a layout for a quarter-page card in Adobe InDesign to use for all of your card designs. Adobe InDesign offers maximum flexibility to adjust the margins and control the spacing of the elements on a page for professionally designed quarter-page cards. Save your quarter-page card layout as a template in Adobe InDesign to create future designs.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe InDesign
  • Open InDesign, and under the “File” menu, select “New” and “Document."

  • Use the pull-down menu to select “Letter” as the page size. Set the number of columns to one and set margins to .25 inches on all sides. Select “OK."

  • Select "Create Guides" under the “Layout” menu at the top of the screen.

  • Set both the number of rows and columns to two and set the gutter width of both to .5 inches. In the options section of the Create Guides window, select the radio button to fit guides to margins.

  • Insert text or information into the appropriate panels; the document window will display the newly created guides that outline the four distinct areas of your quarter-page cards. The lower left panel represents the back of the card once folded, the lower right panel represents the front of your card. The two upper panels represent the inside back and inside front of the folded card respectively.

  • Select all of the text or images located in the top two panels of the quarter-page card. With objects selected, go to the “Object” menu at the top of the screen, select “Transform” and then “Flip Vertical” to invert the text and graphics. All text and graphics in the top two panels must be inverted before printing to allow for right-reading type and right-facing graphics once the finished card is folded.

  • Select “File” and “Save As” to save the quarter-page card layout as a template for future projects. In the "Save As" window, name your file and select “InDesign template” from the pull-down menu. Select the location to save your template file and then click “Save."

  • Go to the “File” menu and select “New” and “New Document from Template” to access your quarter-page card template, Use your browser to navigate to the location where the template file was saved.
