How to Stop Windows Defender

Windows Defender is a free security product from Microsoft that's included with Windows Vista and 7. It is enabled by default and helps to protect your computer from being infected by malicious software. If you run Windows Vista or 7, you may decide that you would prefer to use a different security solution for your computer. If this is the case, disabling Windows Defender may help to prevent a software conflict. Stop Windows Defender from running if you use another security program to keep your computer protected.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button, then click "Control Panel."

2. Double click "Windows Defender." If you do not see this option, click "Classic View" in Windows Vista or "View by: Small Icons" in Windows 7.

3. Click the "Tools" button at the top of the screen, then click "Options."

4. Click the "Administrator" link on the left side of the window.

5. Remove the check from the box labeled "Use Windows Defender."

6. Click "Save," then click "Close." Note that you may need to enter the Administrator password for your computer to complete this action. Windows Defender is now disabled.
