Instructions

    • 1

Ask if your teacher wants you to write an expository or narrative style report. Both report styles pose questions and describe the process of research, hypothesis, data collection and finding solutions in a smooth descriptive style. The primary difference between expository and narrative writing is that the former is more laden with factual content. The latter will describe the process of investigation, research and data collection as though it is an individual experience.

    • 2

Begin with the questions asked during the research process, describe them and then pose your hypothesis. In an expository report, provide background information about the subject matter before describing the research process. In a narrative report, the process of investigation takes precedence over background information.

    • 3

Describe the research process. Be sure to include all materials and how the research process was conducted. Explain the type of data collected and manner of collection before concluding the report.

    • 4

Conclude the report with a solution and summary of the project findings. Readers will want to know if the hypothesis was correct or not, so be sure to re-visit the beginning of the report where research questions and the hypothesis were presented. State whether the hypothesis was correct and the nature of solutions that were discovered during the process of creating the project.

    • 5

Include visual aides and/or diagrams whenever possible to add a visual element to your project report and description. Type and print a final draft for a professional touch to the presentation if the project is to be presented along with the report.
