Instructions

    • 1

Look in a mirror and turn your head from one side to another. Smile and hold this pose to determine your "better" side. Or have someone take pictures of you from each side and judge which side of your face looks better. Ask your picture taker's opinion as well.
Remember to present that same side when having your picture taken.

    • 2

Have the picture taken vertically, if possible. Vertical pictures make you appear more slim as they are longer than they are wide.

    • 3

Have the picture taken from a higher position, farther from the ground. You do not want to have a picture from too low of an angle, as you will be looking down at the camera and it will give you a double chin. A good rule of thumb is to have a picture taken no lower than at face level.

    • 4

Stretch your head and neck slightly toward the camera right before the flash. This will get rid of any double chins or "flat face syndrome" if you push your head toward the camera. Your neck will appear more slim and defined.

    • 5

Stand with your body at an angle. Most body shapes look slimmer from a side view rather than from straight on. This will make you appear slimmer in any photo.

    • 6

Keep your arms away from your body. Do not press your arms against your body when a picture is being taken. This will flatten out your arms against you, making them look twice as wide. Just remember to put a little space between your body and your arms.

    • 7

Smile as though you are laughing. Try "fake laughing" right before the picture is taken. This always gives a picture your best smile and models use this trick often to get a "real" smile for the camera.

    • 8

Stand up straight. Do not slouch in any photo. Even if you are the tallest person in the picture, straighten up. Hunching over in pictures makes you look bigger and is not flattering for anyone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure people take multiple pictures. You want to have more to choose from.

  • Don't hold a smile for too long. Give your face a break.
