How to Reset a Change Oil Indicator on the Dashboard of a Dodge Ram

The name plate "Ram" first appeared on Dodge trucks in the mid-70s with the introduction of the Ramcharger; however, it had been used in marketing prior to that. The Dodge Ram was redesigned for the 2009 model-year. The redesign included an extensive interior overhaul which brought a new oil-monitoring system. The "Change Engine Oil" light illuminates at preset service intervals, reminding owners to change their oil. Once the oil is changed, the light must be reset manually.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your ignition to "On" without cranking the Ram's engine.

    • 2

Depress the gas pedal (completely to the floor) three times within 10 seconds, allowing the pedal to extend backward each time.

    • 3

      Turn your ignition to "Off."

    • 4

Start your engine. Inspect the dashboard to make sure the light is off. If it's still on, try the procedure again.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can temporarily stop the warning chime and display by holding the "Return" button on your message center; however, the warning will reappear the next time you start your engine.
