How to Change RAM in a Sony Vaio
If your Sony Vaio laptop computer has been running slowly lately, you may want to upgrade the RAM modules for a speed boost. You can pull out the existing RAM modules and replace them with higher end models at home without needing to recruit a computer technician. You may only need to remove a single plastic cover on your Sony Vaio to reach the RAM, but some models also have a secondary RAM port located underneath the keyboard.

1
Shut down the Sony Vaio's operating system. Close the LCD lid and disconnect the power cable. Unplug any other devices connected to the Vaio's ports.
-
2
Turn the Vaio upside-down. Press down the release latch for the battery. Pull the battery out of the laptop.
-
-
3
Locate the plastic cover that hides the memory modules. It will either be at the top or bottom of the case, depending on the specific model of your Vaio. Remove the screws holding the cover, and then pull the cover off the Vaio.
-
4
Check to see if there is only one memory port underneath the cover. Grab the edges of the existing RAM module, and pull it out of the laptop. Insert the new module into the port at a 45 degree angle.
-
5
Repeat the process with the second RAM module if there are two ports present. Replace the plastic cover and reattach the screws.
-
6
Remove the two keyboard retention screws at the top of the case if there is only one RAM port present. Flip the Sony Vaio back over and open the LCD lid.
-
7
Find the three locking latches on the top edge of the Vaio's keyboard. Push in the latches with a thin object such as the edge of a flat-head screwdriver. Lift the keyboard upwards, and set it face-down on the palm rest.
-
8
Remove the two screws on the upper-right end of the metal cover that was hidden underneath the keyboard. Pull off the metal cover to reveal the second RAM port.
-
9
Pull out the RAM module and replace it with a new one. Reconnect the metal cover and keyboard. Replace the two screws at the top of the case. Place the battery back into the Sony Vaio, and power on the laptop.
