How to Reset Your Key Store Password in a Blackberry

Save

The Key Store Password is a very important password for your Blackberry. It's a lot like the administrator password on your computer. You should have been prompted to create a Key Store Password when you first bought your Blackberry, but sometimes the phone doesn't ask. Whether you are creating one for the first time or changing your existing one, the process is the same.

  • Turn on your Blackberry. You should have everything closed on your phone so that you are just at the main screen. Navigate to the "Settings" menu on your phone.

  • Select the "Options" section within the "Settings" menu. Scroll through Options until you reach "Security Options." In this new menu, you should see a section labeled "Key Stores." Go here.

  • Hit the "Menu" option within the Key Stores section. This is where you can change the password. Most phones will require you to enter your old password to confirm that you are the owner.

  • Enter the new password you want. This password is used for just about everything on your Blackberry. It is especially evident when you load new programs or change security settings. You should pick a password that will be easy enough to remember that you don't need to write it down. Keep the password a secret.

  • Confirm you want to change your password and close out of the menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • Occasionally, change your password to help prevent hacking.
  • When dealing with Key Store Passwords, you get 10 tries to enter them correctly. If you don't, the Blackberry wipes itself clean and returns to factory settings. This is to prevent someone else from accessing all of your information.
