How to Hook Up an HD Antenna to a Converter Box

If you have an HD television but obtain your programming via antenna, it is possible to use a converter box to receive the stations. With an HD antenna, you need to have an HD converter box if you want to keep the quality of the reception. If you do not have an HD converter box, you are going to lose the upgraded quality you should receive with the HD antenna.

Connect the HD antenna to the converter box. Most likely the antenna connects to your converter box via HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is a high-definition cable that can transport both audio and video signals. Insert the cable into the "HDMI IN" port on the converter box.

Decide on if you want to run an HDMI cable from the converter box or component cables. Component cables can carry an HD signal, however, it takes three video cables and two audio cables. If you do not want the mess of fives cables running between devices, you should opt for HDMI, which can be expensive ($20 to well of $100), and if you already have component cables, it might be a good idea to save money and stick with them.

Plug the cables into the "Out" port on the converter box. The HDMI cable plugs into the "HDMI Out" while the component cables connect to the "Component Cables." Make sure the color of the cable is inserted into the correct cable port (such as blue cable to blue port, green cable to green port, etc.).
