How to Restring a Traverse Drapery Rod
Using traverse rods will prevent your expensive drapery fabric from being damaged due to frequent opening and closing of the drapes. A traverse rod works through a series of sliders and pulleys that are manipulated with drawstrings. When all the parts are working properly, the fabric glides back and forth along the sliders. Sometimes the drawstings can wear or break. When this happens, the traverse drapery rod will need to be restrung. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

-
1
Remove the old cord by cutting the cord with the scissors and pulling it free from the carriages.
-
2
Measure the width of the rod with the tape measure, then measure the length the string hanging down. Add these two measurements together and double the sum. This is the length of the new cord.
-
-
3
Insert the end of the new cord up through the top pulley housing on the left side of the traverse rod. Pull the end toward the right and insert it in the top carrier. Tie a knot to hold the end of the string in the carrier.
-
4
Pick up the opposite end of the new cord and insert it through the bottom pulley housing on the left side. Pull the cord toward the right and insert it into the bottom carrier, taking the cord between the bottom carrier lock and the main body of the bottom carrier. Bring the end out on the other side of the bottom carrier.
-
5
Continue pulling the string and going around the pulley housing on the right end of the traverse rod. Take the cord toward the left on the right side of the top carrier. Insert the end of the cord into the top carrier and tie a knot to secure it in position.
-
6
Adjust the loop of cord that will hang down on the left end of the traverse rod.
Restring to Right Stack
-
7
Take the slides out of the left side of the traverse rod to make the curtains pull to the right.
-
8
Put all the slides to the right of the top carrier.
-
9
Take the main carrier overlap arm off and attach it to the last hole on the left.
Restring to Stack Left
-
10
Take the slides out of the right side of the traverse rod to make the curtains pull open to the left.
-
11
Put all the slides to the left of the top carrier.
-
12
Take the main carrier overlap arm off and attach it to the last hole on the right.

Tips & Warnings
Consider taking the old string to the store when purchasing the new string. This will help you select the right diameter of string.
Keep your string from twisting or knotting when restringing the traverse rod. This causes the cord to jump and bind when you attempt to operate it.
