How to Connect a DVI Cable

DVI is a specific cable that typically is used to connect a monitor to a computer. However, there are a variety of different DVI cables that connect to a computer, such as HDMI to DVI cables. These cables allow you to connect an HD device or television to your computer. Whatever the device is you are attaching to your computer, if you are using a DVI cable, it is typically done in the same fashion.

Instructions

1. Connect the DVI serial port end of the cable to the DVI port on the computer.

2. Tighten the threading screws on both sides of the cable by turning the screws clockwise. This creates a secure connection between the cable and the computer.

3. Attach the other end of the cable to the device you want connected to the computer. If you are using a monitor, plug the DVI cable into the DVI port on the back of the monitor. If you are using an HD monitor and the cable you are using is a DVI to HDMI cable, plug the HDMI end into an available HDMI port on the TV.

4. Power on the computer and the other piece of hardware and you can begin viewing the contents of your computer on the screen. You may have to toggle the monitor's display to show the input that is connected via the DVI cable.
