How to Make Your Own Reed Diffuser at Yankee Candle

Reed diffusers are used in place of candles to add fragrance to a room. Fragrance oil is poured into a glass container and reeds are added. The reeds are porous; each contains 20 or more cellular sections. These reeds soak up the fragrance oil and disperse the scent into the air naturally. Using a quality fragrance from Yankee Candle will scent a room for several months, unlike some which are high in alcohol causing them to evaporate quickly. Yankee Candle offers 10 fragrances in its design-your-own series, along with three vase options and two reed styles. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchasing an extra bottle of fragrance oil and reeds saves you shipping costs later on when it comes time to refill the vase.

  • Because reeds may become clogged over time and lose their ability to pull the fragrance up and out into the room, they need to be replaced every few months, usually when the fragrance oil also needs refilling.

  • Never use the same reeds when switching fragrances.

  • Keep reed diffusers away from pets and children as the fragrance oil may cause harm if ingested and may ruin furniture or flooring if spilled.
