How to Connect a Laptop DVI to an HDTV HDMI

Being able to stream media of all sorts from your laptop to your HDTV is one of the most convenient benefits of the digital age. Laptops have a variety of video outputs, and those with a DVI output are able to connect to HDTV's in a multitude of ways, including into the HDMI port, which delivers the best video quality currently possible. Since these two are not the same, a converter is needed but video quality will still look excellent.

Instructions

      Locate the DVI output on the side of your laptop. It is a white rectangle with pins on the left side and a long, flat hole on the right side.

      Locate the HDMI port on your HDTV. It is a small trapezoid hole on the side or back of your HDTV.

      Turn your HDTV to the HDMI input, by either pressing "Input" on the front of your TV or on the remote.

      Plug in your DVI cable into the side of your laptop.

      Insert the DVI side of the DVI-to-HDMI adapter into the other end of the DVI cable.

      Plug the cable into the HDMI port on your HDTV. Your laptop is now connected and anything you do on the laptop will show up on the TV.
