How to Get Internet Explorer to Stop Detecting a Proxy

Microsoft Internet Explorer is a web browser that comes with the Windows operating system. It is also freely distributed on the official Microsoft website. One option the browser has is the ability to automatically detect a proxy server. This setting is in the network properties for the web browser. If these settings are configured in Internet Explorer and no proxy server exists, you will not be able to access the Internet. You can remove automatic proxy server detection in the properties window.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft Internet Explorer. You don't need to navigate to any website to change the settings.

    • 2

Click the "Tools" menu item and then click "Internet Options." This opens the Internet Explorer preference window.

    • 3

Click the "Connections" tab. In the bottom section, click the "LAN Settings" button. This opens a new window that lists proxy server settings.

    • 4

Remove the check mark labeled "Automatically detect settings." If you want to stop using a proxy server, remove the check mark in the box labeled "Use a proxy server."

    • 5

Click the "OK" button. Close Internet Explorer and re-open it. You can now browse the Internet without the web browser automatically detecting proxy server settings.
