How to Spray a Wood Deck With Waterproofing
Waterproofing is essential in keeping a wood deck in top condition. Wood decks are exposed to excessive moisture which can, over time, cause the wood to deteriorate. Applying a waterproofing sealant protects the wood from moisture and increases the life span of the deck. Although waterproofing can be applied in a variety of ways, the quickest way is to spray it on with a garden sprayer. Spraying waterproofing on to a deck allows you to quickly and effectively seal the deck against water. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Prepare the deck for the waterproofing. Remove all items from the deck including any hanging plants or decorations. Cover any plants or bushes in the surrounding area with plastic to protect them from the cleaning solution and the sealant. Hang plastic along the house where it meets the deck to eliminate overspray from staining the house. Sweep all loose dirt and debris from the deck and clean it thoroughly with a deck cleaner and stiff scrub brush. Allow the deck to dry completely prior to applying the waterproofing.

2
Choose the appropriate waterproofing for the deck. Be sure that the sealer you choose provides UV protection and is resistant to mildew and mold.

3
Pour the majority of the waterproofing into a garden sprayer. Do not pour all of the contents of the can into the garden sprayer; you will need to have some left in the can to apply to the railings and posts which should be done with a paint brush.

4
Apply the waterproofing to the floor of the deck. Hold the nozzle about six inches from the boards and spray a thin coating of waterproofing onto the deck using a side-to-side motion. Have a helper go behind you with a small paint brush to smooth out any runs or puddles immediately. If you wish to apply two coats of the waterproofing to the deck, apply the second coat only to wet waterproofing. Go over a section twice in a row if applying two coats so that the waterproofing does not dry before the second coat can be applied. Applying a second coat to an already dry first coat will ineffectively seal the deck.

5
Continue applying the waterproofing throughout the entire floor of the deck in the same fashion. Allow the waterproofing to dry according to the manufacturer's recommended drying time.
