How to Fix Small Dents in Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding is a great way to protect your house from the weather and requires little maintenance. Because aluminum is a light metal, it can also easily be dented by objects such as sports balls or hail. Fortunately, repairing a dent in aluminum siding is usually a relatively easy fix. Unlike vinyl siding, the bad news is a repaired area on aluminum siding may have to repainted. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Drill
  • Sheet metal screw
  • Pliers
  • Aluminum filler
  • Putty knife
  • Paint

Instructions

    • 1

      Dill a hole in the center of the dent.

    • 2

      Place a sheet metal screw into the hole at an angle.

    • 3

      Attach pliers to the head of the screw. Pull on the screw until the dent pops out. Remove the screw from the siding.

      Fill in the hole with plastic aluminum filler, spread on a putty knife.

    • 5

      Lightly sand the area with 120-grit sandpaper.

    • 6

      Paint the area with an acrylic house paint that matches the color of the siding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Larger dents may require more than one screw. If the dent does not pop out the first time, place the screw in a hole at a different angle.

  • Only sand and paint the siding when it is dry.
