How to Speed Up My IE Browser

Like many web browsers, Internet Explorer (IE) enables you to navigate through the web to locate your favorite content. It includes a variety of add-ons and tools to help improve the web browsing experience. However, it can be very annoying when pages display slowly, or fail to display in general. With some simple troubleshooting guidelines, you can increase IE browsing speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear browser history and cache. Your browser display speed slows down and causes errors when it contains a large database of undeleted history. To clear browser history and cache, launch Internet Explorer and click the "Tools" menu. Select "Delete Browsing History" on the pop-up menu.

Select the categories you want to delete files from. Select categories such as Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History and Passwords. Click "Delete."

    • 3

Disable browser add-ons that you are not using. Too many browser add-ons can cause display problems and diminish IE browsing speed. To disable add-ons, click the "Tools" menu on your browser and click "Manage Add-ons." Click "Toolbars and Extensions" under "Add-on Types." Scroll through the list of browser add-ons and click the one you want to disable. Click "Disable." Repeat this same process to disable additional add-ons you are not using. If prompted, restart your browser.

Minimize the pop-up blocker settings. Setting the pop-up blockers settings too high prevents certain websites from displaying. To minimize the pop-up blocker settings, click the "Tools" menu on your browser and select "Pop-up Blocker." Click "Pop-up Blocker Settings." Select "Medium" in the "Blocking Level" window. Click "OK" to save the changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check your Internet connection if IE cannot display any web pages. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you continue to run into display problems. Chances are your network is down.
