How to Make a Movie on Sims 2 PC Game

Standard game play for The Sims 2 is entertaining and addictive in and of itself, but the game can be taken to a whole new level when you add film-making to the mix. The Sims 2 allows budding directors to set the scene, direct the action and control the shots for their very own movie. You can create everything from a romantic comedy to an action-packed thriller using the movie-making features of this game.

Instructions

    • 1

Write a script. Actions and settings are critically important in movies made with The Sims 2. You don't need dialogue for your movie unless you plan to record your own voices and dub them over the footage from the game. Think about what your plot line will entail and what actions your Sims must do to convey the plot.

    • 2

Build a set for your movie. While you can use a standard house, some of the walls may get in the way of your shots. Building a set with only two or three walls will make filming much easier. You should also make your movie set a little larger than the average Sim home to give the characters plenty of room to move around.

    • 3

Create your cast of characters. You can use existing Sims from your game play or create a whole new set of Sims. Give your characters strikingly different outfits and features to make them easy to distinguish from one another.

    • 4

Practice each scene a few times to make sure that you're getting the action across correctly. You may find that when you direct your Sim to do something, it looks different than you imagined. Take time to find the best actions for each scene and to determine where your Sims should stand to get the best shots.

    • 5

Press the Tab key to enter Cameraman mode. Explore the various camera movements to identify the best angles for each scene. Use the (+) and (-) keys or z and x keys to control the field of vision, and the arrow keys to move forward, backward and sideways. Change the pitch of the camera with the mouse and zoom in or out with the mouse scroll button. The arrow left and arrow right keys will rotate the camera around a point. If you find an angle that you want to return to often, save it by pressing the control key and the number, from 4 through 9.

    • 6

Use the V key to start your recording. Direct the action of your Sims as well as the camera angles to get your shot. When the scene is over, press V again to stop recording.

    • 7

Exit the game and open a video editing program such as Microsoft Movie Maker. Upload the scenes you shot from The Sims 2 and edit them together to create your movie. Add a soundtrack or voices to the film and include special effects such as fades between your scenes. Include a short list of credits at the end of the film to take credit for the work you've done.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the cheat codes 'Kaching' or 'Motherload' to give your Sims more funds. This extra cash can be used to decorate your set or update your Sims' wardrobes for the movie.

  • If your Sims have free will, they may not follow all of your directions. While this could make for an interesting twist, you can eliminate this element of surprise by turning free will off in the settings menu of the game.
