How to Convert MS Money to MS Excel

MS Money is personal finance software and MS Excel is a spreadsheet that can store numerical data. MS Money saves data in .MNY files, while MS Excel saves data in .XLS files. MS Money files must be converted in order to be opened by MS Excel. The conversion process can be easily done by saving the data from MS Money in text format.

      Launch Money and open the report that you wish to convert. The process should proceed from the "Money Reports" area.

      Click the "Export" menu, and indicate the file name and location to save the data.

      Launch Excel, and open a new workbook.

      If you are using Excel 97 or earlier, click the "File" menu and select the "Open" menu. If you are using Excel 2000, click "Import External Data" on the "Data" menu, and then "Import Text File." If you are using Excel 2002 or later, click the "Data" menu, click "Import External Data," and then select "Import Data."

      Locate the text file that you have saved through Money, and click "Import."

      A "Text Import Wizard" will appear. Click the "Delimited - Characters such as commas or tabs separate each field" box, and click "Next."

      Click the "Tab" box under "Delimiters" and click "Next."

      Click "Finish." The data from Money should be displayed in a spreadsheet.

      Click the "File" menu and select "Save" to save the information as an .XLS file.
