How to Run Diagnostics in a GE Washing Machine

Due to the complexity and number of functions that washing machines perform, problems can often be harder to diagnose than to fix. Running a few diagnostic checks on your machine can rule out many problems and help pinpoint why your machine is malfunctioning. GE washing machines can be checked for problems in the same way as any other brand of washing machine. Instructions

1. Check to see that the washing machine is receiving electricity. Check to make sure a breaker is not blown. If the washing machine is receiving power but still will not work, reset the breaker for the washer just to make sure the problem is not electrical.

2. Make sure the washer control knob is set to the "On" position and that the washer door is securely shut. A door left open---even slightly---can cause the washing machine not to run.

3. Check behind the washing machine to make sure that the water faucets filtering into your machine are both turned on and are securely fastened to the machine.

4. Consult a repairman after performing all of the diagnostic steps above if your washing machine still does not function properly.
