Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or build a small box in which you will grow your grass. When selecting a box, choose a box deep enough in which to pour potting and big enough for your pet to sit on comfortably.

    • 2

Choose a grass seed. Actual grass seed can be used but, according to HGTV.com, using other "grass-esque" seeds may be a better alternative. For instance, oats and winter rye produce a lush, thick turf and germinate faster than standard grass.

    • 3

Fill the container with moist potting soil. Potting soil is available in most home and garden sections at local merchandise retailers. Moisten the soil by sprinkling water onto it.

    • 4

Sprinkle the seeds onto the top of the moist potting soil so that a layer of seeds covers the entire area of the soil. Press the seeds into the soil firmly and lightly water them. To keep the seeds moist as they germinate, wrap the container with plastic wrap.

    • 5

Place the container in a sunny location in your apartment. If your apartment does not receive a lot of sunlight, consider using a plant grow light.

    • 6

Dampen the soil periodically over the next few weeks and sprouts will begin to grow. Continue to keep the grass in the sun and give the grass plenty of water. Your pet will be enjoying its own grass bed in no time.
