Because many employers have this online submission option or actually require it, it is important to know how it is done.

Sending Resumes Online

  • Open your preferred word processing software. This is done by double clicking on the icon of the program on your computer's desktop. If no icon is present, you can find it in your "Programs" folder.

  • Compose your resume according to standard protocol, taking care to also include a cover letter to give yourself an advantage.

  • Once finished, you can save your resume by clicking on the "File" button in your writing program's menu bar. Afterward, click on "Save As." It will be easier for both yourself and the possible employer by naming the file with your personal name. Choosing otherwise will only cause confusion and ruin your chances.

  • With that finished, exit out of the program and double click on your Internet provider icon. Next, visit your email site or application and prepare to send the resume. In the "To:" box, type in the employer's name. To note, it may not be wise to use an unprofessional sounding email address. Wanting to share how much you love your dog or tennis is nice, but try to go with something that includes your real name.

  • Type up a message in the content box. Write as professionally as possible, taking great care with spelling and grammar. Make sure to mention that your resume is attached. Remember to include any information the employer may have specifically requested or directed.

  • Go to your email toolbar and select "Attach." Then find your resume, select it, and add it as an attachment.

  • Go over your note to the employer again to make certain there aren't mistakes. Now you're ready to send the email, and remember to make certain that your resume contains the information that will make you stand out from the rest.
