How to Freeze Goat Milk

Throughout the world, more people consume goat's milk than the milk of any other animal, including cows. Many people drink this milk because cow's milk is not readily available or because they are suffering from an allergy to cow's milk. While in their prime, dairy goats can produce 3 to 4 quarts of milk during a ten-month lactation cycle. Goat's milk can be kept refrigerated or it can be frozen to preserve its freshness for an extended period of time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the goat's milk into quart-size zipper baggies. To ensure freshness, use milk that is still warm from the goat.

    • 2

Stack the baggies in the freezer. Goat's milk can be kept frozen for six to eight months.

    • 3

Thaw the milk by placing the freezer bag into a bowl and leaving it to unfreeze in the refrigerator. This process can take several hours. You can also place the baggies on the kitchen counter or in the microwave on high for 30-second increments until it is no longer frozen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not freeze goat's milk in glass bottles, which could shatter.

  • Do not freeze goat's milk in used plastic milk containers. These containers can sometimes be difficult to wash, which could lead to cross-contamination.
