How to Record Off the Stereo Mixer Using Windows Vista

The Windows Vista operating system is shipped with a Sound Recorder accessory. Sound played by or produced by a PC or laptop may be recorded using the Sound Recorder. Sounds made by the Stereo Mixer may also be captured using the Sound Recorder accessory. Once captured, recorded audio files may be saved in the Windows Media Audio (WMA) file format. To use the Sound Recorder application to record audio produced by the Stereo Mixer, just follow a few simple steps.

      Start the Stereo Mixer software, then load the song or prepare to play the audio piece.

      Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs."

      Click the "Accessories" folder to expand.

      Click the "Sound Recorder" link.

      Click the "Record" button.

      Play the audio selection or piece in the Stereo Mixer. When finished, click the "Stop" button on the Sound Recorder. The "Save" dialog box will appear.
