Introduce your self to the elderly or disabled person in need. Help them for free as long as you can afford to. Gain their trust by visiting and talking with them. Let the person in need know that you care for them and their well being. Ask them if they have a caregiver and if they would like you to become their home care worker or person that helps them. They may even ask you first and you may need to think about it.

Think of the career option and how you will be able to help them. Are you the right person for the job? If you and the client have came to the agreement of you being their caregiver, you need to see if they qualify for assistance.

Contact different care giving agencies or the company they qualify for. In the state of Oregon, there are many different agencies that provide help to the elderly and disabled. Seniors and Peoples with Disabilities is one state directed company that provides home care assistance to clients that qualify. If the person in need has a case worker and already qualifies, then you need to meet with his or her case worker to obtain an application for employment. If they don't have a case worker or case with the assistant company, follow the next step.

Help the senior or disabled client apply for assistance. Go to the nearest state building and ask about home care services. Fill out the application with the client and wait for approval. Once approved you will now need to complete some required classes so that you are able to care for the client.

Make sure you have no criminal history charges. You will not be approved if you have a criminal history. Attend the home care worker orientation and complete any required classes needed to become a home care worker in Oregon.

As an Oregon Home Care worker, once approved you will be able to get paid once a month or Bi-weekly.
Make sure you stick to the authorized hours that the company gives to you. Don't work overtime unless you are aware that you will not get paid for it.
