How to Use Box Fans to Cool a Room
Box fans can ventilate and cool a room during warm days when used properly. More than one fan in the room helps increase the cooling result. Save on cooling costs and reduce your environmental impact during the spring and summer by turning off the air conditioner and placing box fans in open windows to cool the room when the temperature isn't too hot. Always use box fans with caution as you would any other electrical household appliance. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Open the room's windows.

2
Place box fans in the open windows facing the inside of the room during cool days when you are trying to get cool air from the outside into the room, or facing the outside if you are trying to vent hot air or fumes from the room outside. Do not put a fan in a window near water, such as a kitchen window over a sink you need to use.

Run the fans on medium or low speed to reduce the risk that the fan's vibrations will cause it to fall out of the window. Turn off the fans and unplug when leaving.

Tips & Warnings
Place multiple fans across from each other and across from open windows to create a cross-breeze. The circulation of air makes you feel cooler because your body cools as the air evaporates sweat.
Fans do not actually create cool air the way an air conditioner does. If there is a heat warning in your area, spend at least some part of the day at the public library, a mall or restaurant where there is air conditioning to avoid heat injury or illness.
