How to Restore My Back Up Files When Vista Crashes
Many people back up their computer files on a regular basis. However, not many people have actually had to restore their system from a backup file after a Vista crash. Fortunately, Microsoft Windows Vista provides a very useful way for people to set up system backups, as well as restore their files from these backups. All you need is a backup file saved from before the crash as well as a reinstalled and functioning Vista installation.

- External storage device with stable backup file
- Properly reinstalled Vista operating system

Connect your computer to the storage location of the backup file.

Click on the Windows button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

Click "All Programs" and then navigate to the "Accessories" folder.

Scroll to the "System Tools" folder, then select the "Backup Status and Configuration" option.

Choose the "Restore files" option on the left on the window.

Click the "Advanced Restore" option.

Select the "Files from a backup made on a different computer" option, then click the "Next" button.

Select the location of the backup, then click the "Next" button.

Choose the backup files to restore, then click "Next."

Select the option to restore the files to their original locations, then click "Start Restore."

Click "Finish" after the message "Successfully restored files" appears on the screen.

Tips & Warnings
Save multiple system backup files. If the computer crashed once, it may crash again.
Always save your backup files to a secondary location, such as an external hard drive, online file storage location, or network hard drive.
Corrupt back up files may not restore properly.
