How to Fix Stop Codes on Computer

Stop codes, otherwise known as "blue-screen errors," are fatal errors that cause the computer to crash. While an occasional stop code error is simply part of owning a computer, excessive stop code errors can indicate dysfunction or incompatibility in your operating system. The quickest way to alleviate this problem is to perform a complete cleaning, restoring your computer's operating system to its original factory state.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the free software utility "RegCleaner," install it to your hard drive and run it. RegCleaner is an automated program designed to clean out the proverbial dust and dirt located in your computer's registry. The registry is the repository of all important data for the computer's operating system. Without manual intervention (through the use of RegCleaner or a similar program), the files in the registry will never be cleaned, resulting in a greater probability of errors over time.

Insert your Windows installation disk into the computer and reboot your machine. Press any key, when indicated, to boot from the CD-ROM, which should take you directly to the Windows Installation screens.

    • 3

Navigate through the Windows installation screens until you are presented with the option to perform a repair installation (following acceptance of the end-user licensing agreement). Perform the repair installation to fix and revive all the files within the operating system, alleviating system problems and putting an end to a majority of your stop code problems.
