1
Arrange the 32 marbles on the marble solitaire board, which is the shape of a cross. The cross is made up of 33 spaces with each point of the cross three spaces wide and seven spaces long. Place the 32 marbles on the board's spaces, leaving the center space open.

2
Begin play by jumping one marble over another into the open spaces. On the first turn, this means jumping into the open center space. You can only jump marbles horizontally or vertically. You can also only jump over one marble at a time--multiple-marble jumps are not permitted. Remove the marble that was jumped. A marble surrounded by empty spaces cannot be moved unless another marble lands in an adjacent space. Continue jumping marbles until no more marbles can be moved. Count up the remaining marbles for your final tally.

3
Win marble solitaire by having only one marble left on the board at the end of the game. Ideally this marble will be left in the center space. Ending the game with more than four marbles left on the board is generally considered a failed game.

4
Play marble solitaire with more marbles and different game boards for more variation and challenge. You can play marble solitaire with a 45-marble cross or hexagon. The more marbles you play with the more challenging it is to whittle them down to one final marble.

Tips & Warnings
Plan ahead when playing marble solitaire. Just because every move is a jump doesn't mean you can casually go about jumping and expect to win. Keeping marbles grouped close together and working from the outside of the board towards the center will improve your game.
