How to Make a Lighthouse Card
Homemade cards not only send heartfelt greetings to friends and loved ones, but they tell the recipient that you cared enough to make the card yourself. When you have a masculine friend or family member in need of a greeting, a lighthouse card might be an ideal embellishment to add to a card. Create a nautical theme using red, white and blue scrapbooking card stock and create a lighthouse with small shapes of paper.
Things You'll Need
- 2 sheets of white card stock (8.5 by 11-inch)
- Bone folder
- Small scraps of red, white and blue card stock
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Stamps (anchors or boats)
- Red or blue inkpad
- Word processing program
- Color printer
Instructions

-
1
Fold one sheet of white card stock in half lengthwise to create the base of the card. Run the bone folder over the fold to make it crisp.
-
2
Create a lighthouse shape for the front of the card using the scraps of red, white and blue card stock. Cut a small equilateral triangle out of red card stock. Cut a thin rectangle out of blue card stock. Cut a slightly larger rectangle out of white card stock. Cut a long rectangle out of red card stock. Angle the long edges of the red rectangle so it tapers in at one end. Make stripes on the red rectangle by cutting thin white rectangles and gluing these over top of the red rectangle to create stripes. Cut one larger rectangle out of white card stock as the base of the lighthouse.

3
Construct the lighthouse on the front left side of the card. Glue the triangle as the top of the lighthouse. Place the thin blue rectangle immediately under the red triangle. Glue the slighter larger white rectangle immediately beneath the blue rectangle. Glue the long red triangle with white stripes vertically beneath the white rectangle. Glue the white rectangle base on the bottom of the lighthouse.

4
Use the stamps to stamp anchors or boats onto the front of the card with the red or blue ink.
-
5
Open the word processing program and open a new document. Select a font and a font color and type a short greeting message for the front of the card. Use a font size that will be appropriate for the front of the card.
-
6
Print the message out onto white card stock. Cut out the message and glue it onto the front of the card.
-
7
Write a personal message inside the card and send your card.
