Tips & Warnings
Ensure before the wedding that the wedding band will fit on the correct finger. You don't want to get to the ceremony and be unable to place the ring on the finger because it is too small. You also don't want to risk the ring slipping off the finger if it is too big.
Many engagement and wedding rings come as matched sets, and must be worn in a certain order. It is entirely acceptable to wear the rings with the engagement ring first, followed by the wedding band.
Since grooms typically only wear one ring, there are no guidelines to follow as to which ring goes first. It is still expected for the groom to wear his wedding band on the ring finger of his left hand.
During a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, the groom places the wedding ring on the bride's index finger of the right hand. After the ceremony, the bride moves it to the ring finger of her left hand. The groom does not traditionally receive a wedding ring during a Jewish ceremony.
The Greeks believed that a vein went from the left ring finger to the heart, and so the wedding band was worn closest to the heart. Others wear the engagement ring on the outside because it protects the wedding band.
If your ring won't fit on another finger or hand for the wedding ceremony, leave the engagement ring on the left hand, and just switch the rings after the wedding.
Don't place the wedding band on the incorrect hand during the ceremony, as that could be embarrassing to all involved.
