How to Customize Rubber Stamps for Weddings

Any bride or groom can order a customized rubber stamp for marking the invitations and other wedding related papers, but these stamps are only customizable to a point. Some severely limit the fonts that you can employ. Others don't allow allow you to have any kind of a picture. While these stamps can be convenient, customizing your own rubber stamp gives you far more choices and makes sure that no one else will have seen your stamp design before.

  • Paper
  • Pastel or charcoal pencil
  • Artist carving block
  • Linoleum cutter tool

      Sketch out the design that you want to appear on your stamp on a sheet of paper with a pastel or charcoal pencil. Use bolder, heavy lines.

      Flip the paper over and press it firmly onto your artist carving block.

      Remove the layers of the rubber that are not covered in pastel or charcoal from your artist carving block with your linoleum cutter tool.

      Wash the newly created stamp before use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you aren't particularly artistic or you are looking for a more polished appearance, print out the image that you want on your stamp in black and white. Make sure that there are no fines lines. Color it all the white parts of the image with a pastel or charcoal pencil. Flip the paper over and press the design onto your stamp. Then, cut out all the colored parts with your linoleum cutter.

  • Buy more than one artist carving block in case you make a mistake.

  • Make sure that all the pastel or charcoal is removed from the stamp before you color it or press it into an ink pad.
