How to Remove Mink Oil
Mink oil treats and preserves leather items such as jackets, boots, wallets and baseball gloves. The oil conditions the leather so it does not dry, crack or flake. Applying mink oil keeps the leather soft, supple and flexible. Accidents happen, and the oil may spill or rub off on clothing. Simply putting the garment through a wash cycle usually will not remove the oily stain. Remove mink oil and mink oil stains with the help of a few household items. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Liquid laundry soap or dish soap
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton balls
Instructions

1
Lay the garment on a clean, flat surface with the mink oil spot facing upwards. Choose a location where the garment can lay flat for at least 12 hours.
-
2
Place folded paper towels or a clean cloth under the area and between the clothing layers. This prevents the oil from soaking through to the other layer of the garment.
-
-
3
Gently blot the area with a paper towel or clean cloth. Do not rub the area. Rubbing the area pushes the oil further into the fabric fibers. Remove as much of the oil as possible.
-
4
Sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch or talcum powder over the oil spot. Allow the garment to sit for 12 hours or overnight. The cornstarch or talcum powder will draw the mink oil out of the garment.
-
5
Brush the cornstarch or talcum powder off the garment after the allotted time has passed. The cornstarch or talcum powder will have a clumped, oily appearance. Remove the paper towel or cloth from between the garment layers.
-
6
Use a clean cloth to gently dab a small amount of liquid laundry soap or dish washing liquid onto the mink oil stain.
-
7
Launder the garment. Use the hottest water setting possible for the fabric type. Do not place the item in the clothes dryer if any traces of the mink oil stain remain.
-
8
Repeat the application of cornstarch or talcum powder. Wash the garment again to remove the mink oil stain.
-
9
Use a cotton ball dampened with rubbing alcohol to dab away remaining traces if the previous steps did not remove all of the mink oil stain. Test an inconspicuous area for colorfastness first. Work from the outer edges of the stain toward the middle of the stain. Launder as usual.
