How to Set Up a Comcast DVR
Comcast DVR services allow you to record up to two programs at a time and save 60 hours of standard programming or 15 hours of high definition programming. You can use your DVR to tape shows that you aren't free to watch, or shows that air at the same time as another program. Your Comcast DVR can also be set up to handle a series of recordings so that you don't have to remember every airing of your favorite program. By setting up your DVR accordingly, you can ensure that you never miss a television show again.

1
Press the "Cable" button at the top of your Comcast remote to make sure that you have your cable box selected. Next, press the "Guide" button.

2
Select the program that you want to watch by using the arrow buttons to navigate the TV guide, or by pressing the "Menu" button and selecting the "Search" option to type in the name of the show you are looking for.
If you want to set a manual recording instead of recording a specific program, press the "Menu" button and select "DVR." In the DVR menu, select "Set a Recording," then "Set a manual recording." This will open a menu that allows you to enter the date, time and channel for your recording.

3
Choose the "Set or Cancel a Recording" option on the bottom of the menu for your selected program. This option is signified with a large red circle icon. When you select the recording option, a menu will pop up that allows you to customize your recording settings.
-
4
Select the options that correspond to the type of recording you want to set up. To record the selected program only, choose "Record this program." If you would like to record every instance of this program, choose "Set up a series recording."
When setting up a series recording, you will also need to decide whether you want only new episodes to be recorded, or whether you want both new episodes and repeats. You can also choose to have every instance of the program saved, including duplicates. If you do not select the option to save duplicates, your DVR will not record episodes that are already saved on your DVR.
-
5
Set the recording settings for your program. This applies to both single recordings and series recordings. You can set the program to be saved until space is needed on the DVR, or to be saved until you choose to delete it. You can also set the start and stop times for your program to occur right on time or at any other time up to 15 minutes before or after the program. For a series recording you will have the additional option of selecting how many episodes of the selected program to keep. You can elect to keep all episodes, or set this option to any number up to seven.
-
6
Review your recordings. You can view all of your scheduled or completed recordings at any time by hitting the "Menu" button and selecting "DVR." From here, choose "Scheduled Recordings" to see programs that are set to record in the future, or "My Recordings" to view programs that you have already recorded.

If you have more than one series recording set, you can give each program a priority setting to help your DVR choose which items to record if three or more programs overlap with one another. Press the "Menu" button, select "DVR" and choose "Series Priority" to adjust these settings.
