Instructions

    • 1

Use a seam ripper to pull out the loose stitching on the snaps. Snaps are fasteners that come with two sides that attach. If you lose one side, take the other side with you to purchase another one.

    • 2

Visit a hobby or fabric store to purchase the right size, shape and color snap. Buy a larger size if they do not carry the right size, because a smaller sized snap will not hold the garment together.

    • 3

Place the snap where the old snap was located on the garment. There should be tiny holes where the old stitching held on to the snap.

    • 4

Use a color of thread that is the same color as the garment. If you are sewing on a pattern, use the shade that is used on the other stitching. With one hand holding the snap, sew in through one of the snap holes and through the garment. Bring the needle back through the next hole. Continue around the snap holes twice.

    • 5

Cut the string when the needle is in the garment and make a knot. Trim off any excess string.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep extra snaps on hand for any needed repairs.

  • Avoid using glue to hold your snap onto leather, because it will ruin leather.
