Step 1
Switch off your computer.
-
Step 2
Look for a tiny button on the back, side, or front of the router. It is so small that you can't use your finger to press it.
-
Step 3
Grab a pencil and press the button with the tip. Hold the button in for 30 seconds then release.
-
Step 4
Allow the router to reload. Turn your computer back on.
-
Step 5
Open your browser and type in the router address---this is in your documentation, but is commonly formatted as a numerical IP address (such as 192.168.0.1). A login screen will pop up.
-
Step 6
Log into the router's settings with the device's default information, which is usually either "admin" or "username" for the username and "password" or nothing at all for the password--again, check your documentation.
-
Step 7
Go to the "Administration," "Security," or similar tab in your settings and look for the "Router Password" section. Type in your new password.
-
Step 8
As an alternative, insert the installation disk that came with your router and re-install the software. This will wipe the old password and allow you to set a new one, as described in the last step.
