How to Make Lighted Tabletop Fountains
Lighted tabletop fountains add a warm and soothing ambiance to your home or patio. It's simple to make a lighted fountain to sit on a tabletop with submersible pond equipment. Your local home improvement store may have what you need, but online retailers have a much better selection. You can make your tabletop fountain any size you like, with one light or two.
Things You'll Need
- 24-inch long, 7-inch deep rectangular planter
- Decorative feet (4)
- Waterproof construction adhesive
- Submersible fountain pump
- Fountain head
- Submersible lights (2)
- Plumber's putty
- Lucky bamboo plants (2)

Instructions

1
Glue the decorative feet to the base of the rectangular planter, one in each corner. Make sure that you do not cover any drainage holes with the feet. Let the adhesive dry.
-
2
Attach the fountain head to the fountain pump. Place the submersible pump in the center of the rectangular planter. Feed the cord through the drainage hole. If there is no drainage opening, you can drill a 1-inch round hole or run the electrical cords over the side of the planter.

3
Place the submersible lights inside the planter, one on either end. Run the electrical cords through the drainage opening. Focus the lights so that they are facing each other but tilted upwards. You can find submersible pond lights in packs of two at online retailers. Most pond and fountain lights include your choice of colored acrylic plates that fit over the light bulb. The colored lights add another design element to your tabletop fountain. Add a colored plate to each light if you like.

4
Seal the drainage opening around the cords with plumber's putty. Let the putty dry.
-
5
Stand one lucky bamboo stalk beside each of the lights. The lights should be focused to shine upwards beneath the bamboo like spotlights. You can stand the bamboo with or without vases. The decorative stones can hold the stalks upright.
-
6
Extend the fountain head to the top rim of the planter. Fill in around the bamboo stalks, lights and the pump with decorative stone. Fill the planter with water.
