1
Decide how much you want to spend--even if you are the prince of a small European country and will be spending $450,000 on a new Bentley. Luxury cars are notorious for charging a great deal of money for options (sometimes known as "personalization schemes" that allow you to choose everything down to the color of your seat belts) so knowing in advance if you really want to pay extra for the ostrich skin upholstery is very important.

2
Pick three luxury vehicles that appeal to you by checking magazines such as "Robb Report" or "Motor Trend" and at least one consumer guide such as "Consumer Reports." A luxury car should also have nothing less than the utmost in crash test safety so check with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website to make sure that the vehicles you are looking at have top ratings.

3
Inspect the dealership you are visiting and expect nothing less than the utmost in customer service. Besides the leather seats, navigation and massaging seat cushions that are standard on so many cars today, you are also paying for top-notch customer care when you buy from a luxury brand.

4
Decide what you consider to be the most "luxurious" aspect of your possible new luxury car. For example, if reliability is top on your list, check out Lexus (top in J.D. Power and Associates surveys); if not paying for servicing is a luxury to you, check out BMW and Volvo (both offer standard free service for 4 or 5 years;) or check out the unlikeliest luxury car maker, Hyundai, and its Genesis sedan, if saving money is what you are after (the Genesis starts at $33,000 well equipped).
-
5
Ask your auto insurance company how the purchase of a luxury car will affect your premium payments. Insurance rates are much higher for luxury cars because of their value and complexity to repair. For instance, an Audi A8 has body panels which are made from aluminum, which allows them to be much lighter, but also makes them nearly impossible to repair. This usually means body panels need to be replaced on this Audi, which causes higher insurance premium for you.
