How to Fix Slow Music Downloads
Because the Internet is gaining such widespread popularity, and due to the advent of better technology that makes music available in digital formats, music publishers and those who host music websites are making their music available for download. This makes the music accessible on a global level, but downloading music works best when download speeds are high. If your music is downloading unreasonably slowly, there are several tricks to improve the download rate.

Improvements for Dial-up Connections
-
1
Under the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel."
-
2
Double left click on "Phone and Modem Settings," and then pick the "Modems" tab.
-
-
3
Select your modem with a single left click, and then right click on it and select "Properties."
-
4
Right cick on the "Advanced" tab.
-
5
Choose "Advanced Port Settings" and increase the buffers as high as they will go.
Software and Hardware
-
6
If you are downloading from a browser, test to see if it is the browser that is hanging up the download by using an alternate browser. The coding on some websites makes downloading incompatible with some browsers.
-
7
Reinstall your browser if the browser itself is not functioning well and there are no compatibility problems with the download.
-
8
If you are using a software program like uTorrent to download your music, check the preferences (usually under "advanced," "edit," or "preferences" menus) of the program to see if the download speed has been capped. Put the download speed as high as is reasonable for your Internet connection.
-
9
If your music downloads AND Internet pages are slow (the slow speed for data transfer is not confined to one program), this is a sign your hardware is failing. Power cycle your modem and/or router. Power cycling means unplugging the unit, waiting 10 to 30 seconds, and then plugging the unit back in.
-
10
Eliminate the router from your network setup - if you have one - and connect your computer directly to the Internet source. Then replace your coaxial, Ethernet, and/or phone cables one at a time to identify any cables that are failing.

Tips & Warnings
Have your Internet provider send a specialist to test your modem if your downloads are still slow after this process. You may have a modem that is bad or not compatible with the provider, or the provider may have an outage. Using FTP, clearing your cache, updating drivers, and using a high speed port all are additional things to check if the professional doesn't find problem.
