Instructions

  1. Construct a Pumpkin Costume

    • 1

Draw two equilateral triangles---6-inches on each side---on black felt with a fabric pen.

    • 2

Cut out the triangles with scissors to make the pumpkin's eyes.

    • 3

Create a nose by drawing a triangle---4-inches across by 8-inches high---on the black felt, and cut along your pre-drawn lines with scissors.

    • 4

Draw a smile on the felt equal to the sweatshirt width, with the fabric pen. Cut out the smile arc with scissors. Add teeth by drawing three 1-inch squares on both the top and bottom edges of the smile. Cut out the tooth squares with scissors.

    • 5

Affix the face of the pumpkin to the front of the sweatshirt by applying fabric glue to the back of the felt pieces and placing them (glue side down) on the sweatshirt. Position the eyes at the top, the nose in the middle, and the smile towards the bottom of the sweatshirt, allowing an hour for the fabric glue to set.

    • 6

Assemble the pumpkin costume. Don the brown tights and a pair of shorts, and pull on the sweatshirt. Finish the costume off by putting on the green stocking cap to act as the stem.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fill out the pumpkin by stuffing plastic bags or cotton bunting under the hooded sweatshirt.

  • Glue on pieces of reflective tape to the face and on the back of the sweatshirt to make this costume more visible to motorists.
