How to Print Your Own Graduation Announcements

Almost every young person looks forward to it: Graduation. At this exciting time in a teenager's life, they want the world to know of their great accomplishment. Graduating from high school is the perfect time to get in touch with faraway relatives and let them know what is going on in your household. Buying pre-printed graduation announcements can be very expensive if you purchase them from the school. Home-schooled students do not have that option at all. Make and print out your graduation announcements using your computer and card stock.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on what size you want to make your graduation announcements. Choose from a quarter fold, which uses a whole sheet of paper that you fold into quarters to make a card; a folded 8 ½ by 11 card; a traditional 4 by 6 folded card, which needs trimming after printing; or a quarter sheet. (For the quarter sheet, use a single piece of paper to print four cards. You can print on the front and the back of these and then cut the 4 individual cards apart.)

Open up your computer program that allows you to import photos or clip art. Design your graduation announcement. Choose your preferred font size and style.

    • 3

Import photos of the student. Use pictures from kindergarten all the way to the senior picture if desired.

    • 4

Import a picture of the school's emblem and put that on the front of the card.

    • 5

Add other information such as the date of graduation. Include information about a graduation party if you are having one.

    • 6

Run a test print onto regular paper to make sure that everything on the card lines up properly, especially if you chose a folded card. Center all the text and photos properly. Make adjustments if necessary.

    • 7

Load the card stock into your printer a few sheets at a time.

    • 8

Print out as many announcements as you need.

    • 9

Set up your computer to print envelopes. Use the same font to put your return address on the envelopes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put a new ink cartridge into your printer just before printing your graduation announcements. This ensures that your announcements will look as good as possible and also saves wasted paper.

  • Do not overload your printer when printing on card stock. Load only a few sheets at a time to prevent misfeeds.

  • Print out individual envelopes and add the appropriate names and addresses on each for a more professional look to your addressed graduation announcements.

  • You can also design your graduation announcements and take them to a local printer for printing. This still costs much less than ordering them from a graduation announcement company.
