How to Measure a Foam Mattress
Before you purchase new bedding, it is important to know what size foam mattress to shop for. You may not know what size foam mattress you own if your mattress is a hand-me-down, or perhaps it has been so long since you purchased bedding you have forgotten the size. No matter what the reason, you need to get an accurate measurement of your foam mattress to ensure that the fitted sheet will stay on the bed and that your bedspread will cover your bed. Remove all bedding from your foam mattress, including all sheets, blankets and pillows.

Measure from the top left to the top right side of the foam mattress using a measuring tape. Write this measurement down as the width of the foam mattress.

Measure the height of one of the sides of your foam mattress; it doesn't matter which side. When measuring the height of the mattress, measure from the top of the mattress to the bottom of the mattress. Round up to the nearest inch. Record this measurement.

Measure the foam mattress from the head of the foam mattress to the foot of the mattress. Record this number as the length of the foam mattress.

See Resources below for a table to tell you the size of your mattress according to the measurements you have recorded. You don't need to know the size to purchase bedding because packaging will contain the measurements of the bedding so you can match them up with the measurements of your foam mattress.
Take the height measurement of your mattress, multiply it by two and add it to the width measurement to determine how wide of a bed spread you will need.
