How to Configure Mozilla Thunderbird for MSN
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free open source email application created by the Mozilla Corporation that allows personal computer (PC) users to configure and use third party email accounts on their PC. Mozilla Thunderbird is compatible with many email service providers. One such email service provider that is compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird is Windows Live Hotmail. Windows Live Hotmail users can configure Mozilla Thunderbird to send and receive emails. A PC user needing to configure Windows Live Hotmail on Mozilla Thunderbird successfully needs to know the email server credentials for Windows Live Hotmail.

Open Mozilla Thunderbird, click "Tools" and then select "Account settings." The Account Wizard dialog box opens.

Select "Email Account" from the list of options and then click on the "Next" button to continue configuring Mozilla Thunderbird for Windows Live Hotmail.

Enter your display name and your Windows Live Hotmail address in the "Name" and "Email Address" fields respectively. After entering your name and Windows Live Hotmail address, click on the "Continue" button.

Select "POP" as your incoming server type, enter "pop3.live.com" in the "Incoming Server" field, and then click on the "Next" button.
If you would like to create your Windows Live Hotmail account as a separate folder, be sure to leave the "Use Global Inbox" option unchecked. However, if you would like to create your Windows Live Hotmail account as a local folder in Mozilla Thunderbird, select the "Use Global Inbox" option.

Enter your full Windows Live Hotmail address in the "Incoming User Name" and "Outgoing User Name" fields and then select the "Next" button. Another dialog box appears; enter an account name for your Windows Live Hotmail account. You may choose to name the account "MSN Email" or "Windows Live Hotmail."
Check to make sure you have entered the right account information and then select "Finish."

Choose "Outgoing Server" located under the Account Settings window of your new account, enter "smtp.live.com" and "25" in the "Server Name" and "Port" fields. You may also enter "587" in the "Port" field.

Click on "Username and Password," and then provide your Windows Live Hotmail address. This will prompt Thunderbird to "ask you for your password the first time you try to send mail," provide your password and then click OK. You have successfully configured Mozilla Thunderbird with your Windows Live Hotmail account and can now send and receive emails.
