How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Kill Mold

Mold can be a toxic substance when it lives inside your home. In fact, it can cause a lot of health problems, including respiratory irritations and infections from breathing in the spores. In nature, mold is a decomposing material, responsible for breaking down dead vegetation. Hydrogen peroxide is hydrogen mixed with oxygen atoms. Together, these two gases form a powerful cleaning tool--and a powerful fungicide. The best part is that it is not toxic, so if one of your children or pets ingests the hydrogen peroxide, it will not harm them.

Things You'll Need

• 1 cup hydrogen peroxide 3% concentration
• 3 cups water
• Spray bottle
• Face mask
• Rubber gloves
• Safety goggles
• Sponge with an abrasive side

Instructions

1. Mix the hydrogen peroxide and water together and put it in the spray bottle.

2. Put on the face mask, gloves and safety goggles.

3. Spray all mold that is visible.

4. Allow the solution to dry completely.

5. Spray the mold again, let the solution sit on the mold for 15 to 20 minutes, then scrub the mold until it is gone.

6. Repeat step 5 for tough stains.

Tips & Warnings

• Light can reduce the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide, so make sure you store it in a dark environment.

• Breathing in mold spores can be dangerous to your health. Wear protective respiratory and eye gear at all times when dealing with mold.
